Cave Canem Inscription: CAVE CANEM Translated as “Beware of the Dog”. The dog and the Latin phrase can still be seen in mosaic on the entrance hall floor of a house in the Roman city of Pompeii. The mosaic dog in Pompeii is depicted as a rather savage looking dog.
